Lady Tigers Open Season with Even-Par Round
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The 16th-ranked LSU women’s golf team opened its 2015-16 fall portion of its season with a solid even par round of 288 in the opening round of the Mason Rudolph Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course.
The Lady Tigers, in the play-5, count-4 format, are in a tie for sixth in the 17-team field, six shots out of the lead established by Alabama (-6, 282). The Crimson Tide is one shot ahead of Northwestern with Virginia and Georgia tied for third at 296 (-2). Auburn is in front of LSU and Louisville at 1-under 287. After the tie, it is five shots back to UCF in eighth (+5).
Denmark junior All-America Caroline Nistrup picked up where she left off last year, firing a 3-under par round of 69 to lead the Lady Tigers, while senior Nadine Dreher posted a 2-under 70. Both are in the top 10 after one round with Nistrup in a group tied for fourth and Dreher in a group tied for ninth. Lauren Coughlin of Virginia fired a 6-under 66, while Lakareber Abe of Alabama posted 67 and Stephanie Lau of Northwestern is third at 68.
LSU also counted a 1-over 73 from Mandeville senior Elise Bradley and a 4-over 76 from Swedish freshman Marina Hedlund. LSU’s other freshman in the lineup, Kathleen Gallagher, of Greenwood, Mississippi, posted 7-over 79.
Bradley had one of the two eagles registered on the day with hers coming on the par 5 sixth hole.
LSU tied for the lead in par 5 scoring on the day at 5-under par with Middle Tennessee State. LSU had 15 birdies, tied for fifth in the field. Dreher played the par-4 holes in 4-under, best in the field and had five birdies in her round.
