Cross Country to Host Annual LSU Invitational
BATON ROUGE – The LSU cross country team is set to host their annual LSU Invitational meet on Saturday at Highland Road Park in Baton Rouge.
The Lady Tigers will begin the meet at 8:05 a.m. CDT, and the men will start shortly behind at 9:15 a.m. as each will compete on the 5k course.
“It’s always good to have a home meet,” Head Coach Khadevis Robinson. “It allows everyone to have a chance to compete and compete in front of their friends and family.”
Four groups will be participating at the LSU Invitational, including high school girls, college women, high school boys and college men. The high school girls will start at 7:30 a.m. and the high school boys will follow at 8:45 a.m.
LSU will be competing against Alcorn State, Loyola-New Orleans, LSU, New Orleans, Nicholls State, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern, Southern Mississippi and Xavier-Louisiana.
“I’m excited about the competition,” Robinson said. “It will help me see how the freshmen are progressing. Hopefully as a team we will progress a little better and keep moving forward.”
The Tigers and Lady Tigers look to repeat history this Saturday after dominating the 2014 LSU Invitational and sweeping the competition for first-place victories.
LSU looks to keep the momentum after a strong performance last Saturday at the Allstate Sugar Bowl Festival as LSU’s cross country teams placed perfect scores to take home first-place finishes.
Leading the Tigers and Lady Tigers are Senior Morgan Schuetz and freshman Dejour Braxton after winning the Allstate Sugar Bowl Festival and helping the Tigers place perfect scores for first-place overall.
Racing with Schuetz for the Lady Tigers will be Erika Lewis, Hannah Bourque, Rebecca Little, Jenna Walker, Elizabeth Dunning, Ashley Welborn, Hannah Deworth, Monica Guillot and Hollie Parker who all placed in the top-10 last week.
Next on the LSU cross country schedule is the Texas A&M Invitational. The Tigers and Lady Tigers travel to College Station, Texas Sept. 26. The men and women will race at Watts XC Course.
