Notes on the Tigers
LSU closes the non-conference portion of the schedule this weekend, playing in its final tournament of the season at the Days Inn & Suites Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque… The Tigers will take on LIU-Brooklyn on Friday at 6 p.m., closing the weekend playing CSUN at 11:30 a.m. and New Mexico Saturday inside The Pit… Saturday’s marquee matchup against UNM at 8:30 p.m. will be streamed live for free on the Mountain West Network… This will be the first ever meeting against the Blackbirds and Matadors in program history, while it’s the first meeting since 1996 against the Lobos… LSU is 1-7 on the season after opening the home slate against No. 22 Purdue and Miami (FL) this past weekend, falling in three sets to the Boilermakers and four to the Hurricanes… LSU had its best offensive match of the season on Sunday against Miami, earning a team season-high 57 kills with a .220 hitting percentage… LSU has earned more kills than its opponents in three of the last four matches… The Tigers have finished matches with more attacks than the opposition in six of their eight contests this season… LSU has earned six or more service aces four times after having six against Miami… Cheyenne Wood was named to the all-tournament team after averaging 7.57 assists per set and 3.00 digs per set in the two matches with two double-doubles… Wood had one of her best matches to date serving up a new career best 39 assists and earning three kills and 11 digs with her first block and a service ace… Senior Cati Leak averaged 4.71 kills per set on the weekend to lead the team, capturing a new season best 21 kills against Miami with a .321 hitting clip… Tiara Gibson leads LSU in blocks with 16, earning her fourth match with at least three blocks against Miami on Sunday… In her first match, Olivia Beyer led LSU in blocks with four against Miami, getting the start with two coming on the solo end… Haley Smith earned her fourth 20-plus dig match of the season against the Hurricanes, while also adding a new career mark of nine assists.
