Get to 'Kneaux': Shae Zamardi

BATON ROUGE – LSU gymnast Shae Zamardi enters the 2016 season with high confidence after earning First-Team All-America honors on bars last year.

Zamardi shattered her career high on bars a year ago by scoring a 9.90 four times, including at the NCAA Championships.

Find out a little more about the Vancouver Island, B.C., native in this fun and informative Q&A.

Do not miss your chance to see Zamardi and the Tigers take on some of the nation’s best teams at home in 2016.

Season tickets for the upcoming season are on sale at www.LSUtix.net at a cost of $15 for youth ages 3-12 and $25 for adults.

Great seats are still available to be reserved with season tickets.

LSU will host five home meets in the Maravich Center in 2016, starting with a bang against national power Oklahoma. The Tigers will also take on Southeastern Conference foes Kentucky, Arkansas, Auburn and Alabama.

“Get to Kneaux” Shae Zamardi a little better in this Q&A:

Why did you choose LSU?
I knew the second I stepped onto campus that I wanted to go to LSU. I loved every single thing about it and loved the way they did things down south and how different it was from Canada, and I knew that this was where I was supposed to be!

What has been your favorite moment at LSU?
My favorite moment that I have experienced here at LSU was when we competed against Florida last year and packed the PMAC. The whole arena was roaring and the environment was so full of life and excitement, not to mention we also beat them and made history! It was such a memorable day and not only for our team but for the Baton Rouge community too!

What are your goals for the 2016 season?
Our team goals for this year are to win the SEC title and of course take home the National Championship!

What have you worked on the most in the gym to prepare for 2016?
I’ve been working really hard in the gym on bars and floor for this season. I’ve been pushing myself a lot harder on bars to make each skill that much better and cleaner, striving for that perfect routine. On floor I’ve been working exceptionally hard on overcoming setbacks from last year due to an ankle injury by focusing on my tumbling every day in order to prepare myself to fight for a spot in the lineup and help my team.

Have you checked out the construction of the new training facility? What are your thoughts?
Yes, I have, and it is beautiful! It is one of the best facilities I have ever seen in my entire life. Every time I walk by the facility it just reminds me of all the hard work and dedication our coaching staff has put in for our new facility. I am so happy it’s finally happening! I have a countdown on my calendar until we get to walk in and have our first day of practice.

Ok, now to the fun questions.

What do you like most about your hometown?
The thing I love most about Vancouver Island is the nature. My hometown has so many different, beautiful places to explore, each bringing their own authenticity. Every day there is a new adventure.

Do you have a talent other than gymnastics? What is it?
My other talent than gymnastics is singing. I love to sing, and I even write some of my own music. You can ask any one of my friends. When I’m not flipping around you will either find me singing or dancing around listening to music.

If the team was to come to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for them? Be honest 🙂
If the team came over to my house for dinner I would prepare peppered salmon with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed green beans. I love to cook dinner when I have time!

What is your go-to Pandora station?
My go to station on Pandora station would probably be Todays hip-hop and pop hits.

What song describes your work ethic when it comes to gymnastics?
I Don’t Get Tired (#IDGT) by Kevin Gates.

Without looking it up, can you tell us how many years Bob Moore has coached at LSU?
16

If someone asked you why they should get LSU gymnastics season tickets, what would you tell them?
I think everyone should buy season tickets because our team is incredibly talented this year and we have a very exciting season ahead of us that you are not going to want to miss out on! Also it’s the most fun you will ever have with your family and friends on a Friday night!

Do you want to build a snowman?
Duh. I want to build a snowman! Who wouldn’t?!
