Women's Golf Announces 2015-16 Schedule
BATON ROUGE – For the first time since 2007, the LSU women’s golf team and the LSU Athletics Department will host an NCAA postseason regional event to highlight the 2015-16 LSU women’s golf schedule.
LSU will have two new stops on its eight-tournament regular season schedule that includes both Fall 2015 (Sept.-Oct.) and Spring (Feb.-April) swings before the post-season that hopefully will eventually return them to the NCAA Championships in late May at the Eugene Country Club in Eugene, Oregon.
To qualify for the tournament, the Lady Tigers will have the advantage of qualifying and playing on their own course in Baton Rouge, The University Club, as the course will host for the third time a women’s NCAA regional (2002, 2007, 2016), one of four scheduled that advances teams to the championship.
The regional event is scheduled for May 5-7 at The University Club and 18 teams will take part in the 54-hole tournament with six advancing to the national championship.
This will actually be LSU’s fourth time to host a women’s regional as it hosted one of two events that started regional qualifying in the sport in 1993 at Santa Maria Golf Course in Baton Rouge.
The regional will be one of two events in a seven-week period that the women’s golf team will host at The University Club as the Lady Tigers will try to defend their title in the LSU Tiger Golf Classic, March 20-22.
LSU will also defend their championships won in 2014-15 at The Alamo Invitational in San Antonio in late October and the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic at English Turn in New Orleans to open the spring schedule, Feb. 21-23.
LSU will also take part in two of the events it finished second in, the season opening Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in Franklin, Tennessee (Sept. 18-20) and the prestigious Darius Rucker event in Hilton Head, South Carolina in March.
There are two events that LSU will be part of this season for the first time – the ANNIKA Intercollegiate in Orlando, Sept. 27-29 and the Silverado Showdown in Napa, California, April 3-5. The ANNIKA event features a limited invitational field of 12 of the country’s top squads, while the Silverado Showdown is a combined hosting effort of Oregon and Colorado.
