Gymnastics No. 2 in First RQS National Rankings

BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team checked in at No. 2 with a 197.335 regional qualifying score (RQS) in the GymInfo national rankings released Monday.

Previously the national rankings had been determined by a team’s season average, but starting this week and continuing for the rest of the season the rankings will be determined by a team’s RQS.

LSU (9-1, 6-0 Southeastern Conference) used a 197.950, the second-highest score of the season and the fourth-highest in school history, to knock off then No. 2 Florida on Friday and bolster the Tigers’ position in the initial RQS standings.

The RQS is ascertained by taking a team’s top six scores – three of which must be from road/neutral meets – dropping the high score and averaging the remaining five scores.

In LSU’s case, the six scores consisted of a 198.075 versus Georgia, the 197.950 against Florida, a 197.425 at the Metroplex Challenge, a 197.350 at Auburn, a 197.350 against Missouri and a 196.600 at Kentucky.

The 198.075 was dropped, and the five remaining scores were averaged to give LSU a 197.335 RQS.

Oklahoma took the No. 1 ranking with a 197.640 RQS, and Florida was right behind LSU with a 197.270 RQS.

In the event rankings, LSU is listed at No. 2 nationally on floor (49.405 RQS), No. 3 on beam (49.230), No. 4 on bars (49.320) and No. 6 on vault (49.370).

Rheagan Courville is No. 3 nationally in the all-around standings with a 39.495 RQS. Courville is No. 3 on bars with a 9.935 RQS and No. 5 on vault with a 9.920 RQS.

Jessie Jordan does not appear in the all-around RQS rankings because she did compete in the all-around at Auburn, one of LSU’s three road meets, so Jordan did not qualify for the rankings.

Jordan is ranked No. 3 in the beam standings with a 9.90 RQS, and she is tied for 17th at 9.865.

Lloimincia Hall is tied for No. 1 nationally on floor with a 9.935 RQS, and Ashleigh Gnat is No. 7 on floor with a 9.915 RQS.

It will be back-to-back Top 5 matchups for LSU as the second-ranked Tigers travel to face No. 5 Alabama (6-1, 4-1) in Tuscaloosa on Friday. The meet will begin at 8 p.m. CT in Coleman Coliseum, and SEC Network will broadcast the meet live.
