Lady Tigers Fire Low Round, Move Into Third in P.R.

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico – Three members of the LSU women’s golf team are in the top three of the individual standings as the nationally-ranked Lady Tigers moved up to within three shots of the team lead heading into Tuesday’s final round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

The Lady Tigers improved its team round by four strokes to 292 on Monday’s second round, posting the low team round of the day, and LSU stands after two rounds at 12-over 588. Arkansas is the tournament leader at 9-over par 585 after a 7-over par round of 295. Iowa State is second at 11-over 587 after a 6-over 294. It is three shots back to fourth place Kent State at 15-over par with Northwestern and TCU tied for fifth at 19-over.

It was sophomore Caroline Nistrup who led the Lady Tigers on day 2 with a 3-under par round of 69 in a round with five birdies. Nistrup puts that with a first-round 75 and is tied for third at even par 144.

Junior Elise Bradley followed her 1-under 71 of day one with an even par 72 to continue her solid play for LSU this year. Bradley battled hard, playing the four par 3s in -3 in a six-birdie round. She is alone in second place at 1-under 143, eight shots behind leader Chonlada Chayanun of Iowa State who backed up Sunday’s 66 with a 3-under 69 on Monday.

Senior Madelene Sagstrom, who also posted 71 on Sunday, was at 1-over 73 for her round on Monday and is in the group tied for third at 144 with Nistrup. Sagstrom had 15 pars on her card and just one bogey for the day.

Bradley is second in the tournament with nine birdies and Nistrup and Sagstrom are tied for second in the event for most pars with 26.

Carly Goldstein and Nadine Dreher shared the other counting score of 6-over 78.
