LSU Places 46 on Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Today, the Southeastern Conference and Commissioner Mike Slive announced the members of the 2014 SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll, as LSU had 46 of its student-athletes named to the list.

Comprised of members of the football, women’s soccer and volleyball programs, the Tigers this past semester nearly doubled their number of honorees from the 2013 year, as 25 were selected a year ago.

The Tiger football team led the way with the most selections, as 22 players were honored for their work in the classroom. Among the honorees was Kenny Hilliard, who on Monday was the recipient of the “Eye of the Tiger” award at the Tiger Athletic Foundation Academic Excellence Gala which goes to a student-athlete that has overcome great adversity with perseverance, dedication and determination.

For the second consecutive year, the LSU women’s soccer team tied its program record for the most selections to the Fall Honor Roll with 14, paced by Summer Clarke who finished second on the squad in goals with seven and total points with 18. In November, the team was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association for the third consecutive year with the NSCAA Team Academic Award.

Rounding out the honorees were 10 members of the LSU volleyball team, which is coming off of a second-straight NCAA Tournament berth last December. Of the ten, three were seniors in Helen Boyle, Malorie Pardo and Laura Whalen, while six will be making their return to the team for the 2015 season in August.

The 2014 Fall SEC Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2014 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.

Any student-athlete who participates in a Southeastern Conference championship sport or a student-athlete who participates in a sport listed on his/her institution’s NCAA Sports Sponsorship Form is eligible for nomination to the Academic Honor Roll. The following criteria should be followed:

(1) A student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or above for either the preceding academic year (two semesters or three quarters) or have a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution.

(2) If a student-athlete attends summer school, his/her grade point average during the summer academic term must be included in the calculation used to determine eligibility for the Academic Honor Roll.

(3) Student-athletes eligible for the Honor Roll include those receiving an athletics scholarship, recipients of an athletics award (i.e., letter winner), and non-scholarship student-athletes who have been on a varsity team for two seasons.

(4) Prior to being nominated, a student-athlete must have successfully completed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit toward a baccalaureate degree at the nominating institution.

(5) The student-athlete must have been a member of a varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
