Gymnastics Moves to No. 2 in National Rankings

BATON ROUGE – The LSU gymnastics team posted the second-highest score in the nation last week against Georgia, and the Tigers were rewarded by jumping up one spot to No. 2 in the national rankings released Monday by GymInfo.

LSU (7-1, 4-0 Southeastern Conference) tallied a 198.075 to beat Georgia on Friday, and that score boosted the Tigers to a 197.315 season average.

Oklahoma remained No. 1 with a 197.579 after earning a 198.150 on Friday at Iowa State.

LSU’s 198.075 marked the second-best score in school history and the third time the Tigers have eclipsed 198 in history.

LSU also checked in at No. 2 nationally in the bars, beam and floor rankings, and the Tigers stayed put at No. 6 in the vault standings.

LSU owns the highest beam and floor scores in the nation after tallying a 49.625 in both events against Georgia. The Tigers’ 49.600 on bars against Iowa in the season opener remains the second-highest bars total nationally.

Courville also ranks second nationally on bars with a 9.945 average, eighth on vault with a 9.920 average and 10th on beam at 9.865.
