Men's Tennis Ready for Three Saturday Matches

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 42 LSU men’s tennis team (4-1) will play host to three matches against two teams on Saturday when Alcorn State and Jackson State travel to Baton Rouge to take on the Tigers at W.T. ‘Dub’ Robinson Stadium. LSU is scheduled to face Jackson Sate at 10 a.m. CST before facing them again at noon CST. The Tigers will then go against Alcorn state at 4 p.m. CST.

Head coach Jeff Brown is hoping his team can continue building on their strong start and add more wins to their record as the Tigers have another opportunity to defend their home court.

“It is important for us to keep building on the confidence we have achieved to this point,” Brown said. “The team has been doing everything with great energy from the warm ups into the matches. It has been a fun group to be around and we want to make sure nothing happens to detract from that.”

LSU will be challenged by having three consecutive matches in one day. Coach Brown said that he will be paying especially close attention to the team’s health and staying focused to avoid injuries.

The long day of competition will also allow for the Tigers to experiment with different lineups and give other players an opportunity to record wins.

“When you play three matches you need to keep moving guys in and out,” Brown said. “We will have some people in different positions and they will be guys that have not gotten as much playing time. It is an opportunity for them.”

Brown is hopeful that injured junior Andrew Korinek is one of those players who could get an opportunity to see the court for LSU on Saturday. Korinek has extended his practice time and is getting closer everyday, Brown said.

“Andrew certainly could play but I do not know if he will,” Brown said. “He is in a position to play if we decide it is what is best for him but we will have to see about that. It is good to have him back practicing and moving in the right direction.”

The Tigers are in the midst of their longest home stand of the season where they have been nothing short of dominant. LSU is undefeated at home including two 7-0 sweeps of Purdue and Nicholls.
