Weil Collects All-America Honor at NCAA's

MINNEAPOLIS — Sophomore Cassie Weil finished 12th on three-meter and earned her third NCAA Honorable Mention All-America Honor on day two of NCAA Championships. Weil finished with a score of 357.65 in the final and scored five points for the team.

“I saw in her eyes that she was ready to compete,” LSU Diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “The preliminary contest was exceptional. She fought really hard and did a great list. In the consolation final, she raised her game significantly to finish fourth. I know she is happy and excited to go into her best event tomorrow, which is platform.”

For the Lady Tiger swimmers, Megan Cox, Danielle Stirrat, Kara Kopcso and Leah Troskot set the school record in the 800 freestyle relay with a time of 7:08.61.

“It was a great day of racing for the women,” LSU Swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “The relay team did everything they could to score, but the event got even faster this year. Dropping around three seconds off of the school record is great. To do it in this meet gives them more experience to move forward from here.”

In individual events, Kopcso and Amber Carter finished 43rd (53.60) and 47th (53.74) respectively in the 100 butterfly.

Sophomore Caley Oquist finished 27th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 52.99.

The relay team of Oquist, Taryn MacKenzie, Carter, and Troskot finished 21st in the 200 free relay (1:38.24).

“Caley, Kara and Amber had great individual swims and will try to close out the meet tomorrow with personal bests,” Geyer added.

Saturday is the final day of NCAA Championships. Individual swims for Lady Tigers are the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle and 200 breaststroke. Weil will also compete on platform.
