Butsch Named SEC Tennis Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.. – Freshman Justin Butsch was named SEC Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week after clinching both of LSU’s wins last weekend as well as his performance during conference play.

Butsch clinched a 4-3 win for the Tigers against No. 60 George Washington with a 6-1, 6-0 victory on court four. Butsch also clinched LSU’s 7-0 win against Nicholls on Sunday with a 6-1, 7-5 victory on court three.

In the match against No. 9 Texas A&M, Butsch was on serve to win his match vs. Junior Ore before the match was clinched. Butsch led Ore 5-3 in the third set and was on track to score the first points for LSU. Butsch is the only Tiger without a loss in SEC play and has a 9-4 (2-0 SEC) record in the dual season.

LSU returns to action with a weekend of matches in Mississippi beginning Friday, March 21 at Mississippi State. The Tigers will compete on Sunday, March 23 at Ole Miss.
