Gymnastics Continues Run of 197-Plus Scores

BATON ROUGE – For the first time in school history, the top-ranked LSU gymnastics team earned a 197 score or higher for the ninth consecutive meet in a big 197.800-195.000 win over No. 24 Kentucky Friday night in the Maravich Center.

The previous record was eight straight meets with at least a 197 team score established during the 2004 season.

In front of 5,414 fans on Senior Night, LSU improved to 10-3 overall and 5-2 against Southeastern Conference competition.

Prior to the meet LSU honored seven seniors – manager Robby Abboud, Kaleigh Dickson, Casey Duvall, Lainie Fleming, Mckenzie Fox, Maliah Mathis and Sarie Morrison.

Once the meet got started the Tigers displayed a consistency throughout the evening, earning a 49.450 on vault, 49.475 on bars, season-high 49.450 on beam and a 49.425 on floor.

“This team has done a remarkable job of staying focused on the task at hand,” LSU head coach D-D Breaux said. “We made a few little mistakes that we want to avoid at the SEC Championship next week, but I believe this meet will set us up to perform our best at SECs.”

Kentucky (9-10, 2-5 SEC) posted a 49.025 on vault, 48.950 on bars, 47.775 on beam and 49.250 on floor to finish with a 195.000.

Junior Rheagan Courville won her seventh all-around title of the season with a 39.625. She tied for the vault title with a 9.925, and she earned the bars title with a career-high tying 9.95.

Senior Kaleigh Dickson finished with an outstanding meet on Senior Night as she scored a career-high 39.500 in the all-around and tied for the vault title with a 9.925.

Freshman Ashleigh Gnat posted a 9.95 on beam for the second consecutive meet, and it earned her the beam title. She has three beam titles this season.

For the third meet in a row, junior Lloimincia Hall captured the floor title, scoring a 9.925 in the anchor spot. It marked her fifth floor title of the season and the 22nd of her career, tying her for third place in LSU history for career floor titles. Sandra Smith also recorded 22 career floor titles from 1980-83.

LSU opened the meet with a 49.450 on vault, paced by Courville and Dickson’s 9.925s to share the title. Freshman Sydney Ewing scored a 9.875 in her first official vault as a Tiger, and Sarie Morrison also added a 9.875. Jordan posted a 9.85, and Ashleigh Gnat recorded a 9.825.

The Tigers tallied a 49.475 on bars in the second rotation that ranks as the third-highest bars total of the season. Courville led the team with a career-high tying 9.95, and freshman Randii Wyrick posted a season-best 9.90 in the No. 2 spot in the lineup. Jordan, Morrison and Ranzy provided 9.875s, and Dickson rounded out the lineup with a 9.85.

In the third rotation LSU posted a 49.450 on beam. Not only does it rank as a season high in the event, but it is also the highest team beam score for the Tigers since March 13, 2005 when LSU scored a 49.550 at Texas Woman’s.

Gnat earned a 9.95 on beam for the second straight week to win the event title. Jordan anchored the event with a 9.90, and Courville and Dickson added 9.875s. The 9.875 ties a career high for Dickson. The Tigers also counted a leadoff 9.85 from Hall.

LSU wrapped up the meet with a 49.425 on floor, led by Hall’s 9.925 and Jordan’s 9.90. Senior Maliah Mathis earned a season-high 9.875 on floor, and Courville also added a 9.875. Dickson led off the event with a 9.85 that rounded out the scoring.
