Sand Volleyball Holds First Scrimmage, Clinic
BATON ROUGE – The LSU sand volleyball team hosted a Purple & Gold Scrimmage Wednesday to preview the program’s inaugural season.
The team played four different rounds of competition, each time paired with a different partner and different competitors.
“The matchups today were strategic to see how they’d match up with each other,” associate head coach Russell Brock said. “We mixed them up a bit, because we knew this was an opportunity to see how they play with each other and against each other.”
Following the completion of the intrasquad match, LSU hosted a Purple & Gold Kids Clinic, where the team interacted with kids eighth grade and younger.
“The fact that we have a facility like Mango’s in a town this size shows that there’s already a passion for the sport,” Brock said. “If we can start that earlier, it will only benefit this program and this community in the long run.”
LSU opens its season at home at 4 p.m. March 18, taking on UL-Monroe. The Lady Tigers will close the season by hosting the Battle on the Bayou on April 19, a tournament where they will take on both UAB and Tulane.
All home matches in 2014 will take place at Mango’s, located off of South Sherwood Forest Boulevard in Baton Rouge. Admittance to all home matches is free as part of the “Geaux Free” program.
