Nistrup Leads Lady Tigers on Day 1 at Darius Rucker

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – Caroline Nistrup posted an even par round of 71 to pace the LSU Lady Tigers in the opening round Friday at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at the Long Cove Club.

Nistrup is in a group tied for seven at even par, four shots off the lead of Stephanie Meadow of Alabama who posted a 4-under round of 67.

The freshman posted three birdies and three bogeys in the opening round of the 54-hole event and was one of three LSU players to have least three birdies on the card.

The Lady Tigers posted a round of 13-over 297 and is one of three teams tied for sixth place with Stanford and Arkansas. Duke is the tournament’s first-round leader at even par 284 and a nine-shot lead over Vanderbilt and Alabama (+9, 293). South Carolina is fourth at 10-over 294 with North Carolina in fifth at 11-over 295.

Senior Lindsay Gahm is at 2-over 73 in a four birdie round to stand in a tie for 14th place, with Madelene Sagstrom posting a 4-over 76. Rounding out the counting scores was 7-over 78 by Ali Lucas.

Nistrup’s round was so consistent in the stats for the round she played the par 3, par 4 and par 5 holes as respective groups at even par. Nistrup and Sagstrom are tied for sixth in a group that played the par 3s even par on the opening day.

The second round of the tournament is set for a 7 a.m. CST start Saturday. LSU is scheduled to go in the first wave of the day off hole No. 1 with Arkansas and Oklahoma.
