Beckham Jr. Among AP All-America Teams

BATON ROUGE – LSU junior wide receiver/return specialist Odell Beckham Jr. was selected to the Associated Press All-America third team as an all-purpose player, the organization announced Tuesday.

Beckham Jr. shattered the LSU single-season all-purpose yards record this season with 2,222 yards, breaking Domanick Davis’ mark of 2,120 yards set in 2002. Beckham Jr. caught 57 passes for 1,117 yards and eight touchdowns. He also recorded the second-highest kick return yardage total in LSU history with 806 yards on 30 returns. Beckham Jr. added 14 punt returns for 141 yards as well as a 100-yard return for a touchdown off a missed field goal against UAB.

The New Orleans native heads into the Outback Bowl on New Year’s Day just 174 yards shy of tying the Southeastern Conference single-season all-purpose record of 2,396 held by Kentucky’s Randall Cobb in 2010. Beckham Jr. is currently third in SEC single-season all-purpose history.

Beckham Jr. was named a first-team All-American by CBSsports.com as an all-purpose player on Tuesday. CBSsports.com also listed Beckham Jr. as a third-team All-America at wide receiver and kickoff returner.

Sports Illustrated released its All-America teams Tuesday, and Beckham Jr. was featured as a second-team member as an all-purpose player while quarterback Zach Mettenberger, running back Jeremy Hill and linebacker Lamin Barrow were listed as honorable mention All-Americans.
