Ferreyra to Get BASF Professor of Excellence Award

BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes has selected Dr. Dean Ferreyra for the BASF Professor of Excellence Award. He will be recognized during the LSU-Texas A&M football game this Saturday.

“Dean Guillermo Ferreyra represents the epitome of discovery, learning, engagement, and diversity which are the four pillars of the LSU Flagship 2020 Agenda: Transforming Lives.”  said Kenneth O. Miles, Assistant Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of the Cox Communications Center. “He is a passionate and dedicated educator who is very deserving of the BASF Professor of Excellence award. His impact has a had a rippling effect from the University throughout Baton Rouge and ultimately the state. We are fortunate to have such a talented educator who addresses recruitment, retention, and graduation with a sincere commitment to educational growth and development.”

Dean Ferreyra is currently the Interim Dean of the LSU College of Science and a Professor of Math.  As a part of the Forever LSU Campaign, he raised over $5 million in donations to the college.  He has been with LSU since 1983 in various leadership roles including the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Chair of the Department of Mathematics. Dean Ferreyra received his undergraduate degree from the Universidad de Cordoba in Argentina and PhD from Rutgers University.

This is BASF’s second year to be the presenting sponsor of the Professor of Excellence award.
