Swimming & Diving Teams Head to Texas A&M

BATON ROUGE — The LSU Swimming and Diving team travels to College Station, Texas, for the Adamson Invitational to compete against No. 7 Stanford, Texas A&M, SMU, TCU and Air Force Nov. 21-23.

The morning sessions begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday and Friday and 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. The finals will start at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Live meet results will be posted on aggieathletics.com and divemeets.com.

“This is a warm up and a practice for Southeastern Conference Championships,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “For the divers, we’ll have an opportunity to do the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events. We now have to train through this and compete hard. It’s an opportunity to dive in an event each day then regroup. We’re excited for the opportunity to compete against some really good teams.”

LSU divers will get their first opportunity to showcase their platform dives this season in preparation for championship competition. Sophomore Cassie Weil owns the LSU Women’s Diving record in the platform with a score of 333.70 earned at the AT&T Diving Nationals in August. Sean McKinney looks to continue his strong senior campaign. McKinney has won three diving events and placed second in two other events so far this season.

On the swimming side, Kara Kopcso looks to continue a stellar freshman year. Kopcso’s time of 1:59.06 in the 200 butterfly is fifth in the SEC. In just four meets, she has five wins in the 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 freestyle.

Leah Troskot, Danielle Stirrat and Colleen O’Neil have also won multiple events this year. Troskot touched the wall first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle. O’Neil earned her first wins of the season in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Stirrat secured wins in the 100 back and 500 free.

Junior Amber Carter collected her first wins of the year in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle against South Carolina.

Senior Torrey Bussey is also providing a consistent year with multiple runner up finishes to pace the Lady Tigers.

For the men, senior Michael Young‘s times of 1:47.31 in the 200 backstroke and 49.16 in the 100 backstroke are top 10 in the Southeastern Conference. Young’s two wins of the season came against South Carolina the last time the Tigers competed.

Junior Frank Greeff is gaining momentum after his firs wint of the season against South Carolina. Greeff placed first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:50.36 and also second in the 100 butterfly with a mark of 49.76.

“It’s a great format with some high quality teams,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “On the women’s side, there are two teams that were top-10 in the country. There will be some fast racing. The format matches up great for NCAA Championships and I think we are physically and mentally ready. We just have to focus on swimming some fast times in the morning to prepare for the night. We’re looking forward to it and we hope to get some good times this weekend.”

All individual swimming events will be pre-seeded and have three championship seeded heats. A-B-C-D finals will be offered for all individual events 200 yards and shorter. A-B-C finals will be offered for the 500 freestyle and 400 IM. Scoring for individual events will be: Championship: 20-17-16-15-14-13-12-11 Consolation: 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. Relays will count double, scoring to 16 places
