Mickey Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BATON ROUGE – LSU’s Jordan Mickey, who had double doubles and blocked 11 shots in his first two college basketball games for the Tigers, was named Monday as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week.

Mickey becomes the first freshman to win the SEC Freshman of the Week honor since Storm Warren on Nov. 24, 2009.

The 6-8, 220-pound freshman forward from Arlington, Texas, averaged 12 points, 11.5 rebounds, 5.5 blocks and two assists in games at UMass and against Northwestern State. Posting double-doubles in his first two collegiate games, Mickey had 14 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks at UMass and then followed that up with 10 points, 13 rebounds, six blocks and three assists against Northwestern State.

LSU hosts UNO Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in the Maravich Center. The game will be regionally televised on Cox Sports TV. Tickets are available at LSUtix.net.
