Notes on the Tigers
LSU was bested by No. 5 Florida in four sets during its lone match last week. The Tigers were only the third SEC team on the season to take a set off the Gators and are now 14-7, 4-5 in SEC play. With the loss, LSU checks in at eighth place in the SEC standings and has dropped 15 consecutive matches to ranked opponents dating back to the 2010 season. Briana Holman belted 12 kills on a .370 hitting percentage and tacked on six blocks over her three sets of action. She came off the bench for the first time in her career versus Florida. She has connected for 10-plus kills in 16 of her last 19 outings and collected at least five blocks a team-leading 15 times this season. Holman continues to pace the SEC and ranks sixth nationally with a 1.55 blocks per set average. Malorie Pardo dished out 30 assists to go along with 18 digs to claim her team-high 13th double-double on the season. She also matched a career-best with three of LSU’s six aces during the Florida match. The trio of Desiree Elliott, Cati Leak and Katie Lindelow was held to a .128 hitting percentage on their combined 94 swings. Lindelow reeled in 12 digs and was 35-of-36 on her reception attempts. LSU’s back row defense was led by Haley Smith‘s 16 digs which gave her 10-plus scoops in 15 of her 16 starts at the libero position. For the season, Smith has corralled 3.78 digs per set to rank 10th in the SEC. LSU begins a stretch of six of its next eight matches on the road with stops at Georgia [Friday – 6 p.m. CT] and No. 20 Kentucky [Sunday – 12 p.m. CT].
