Men's Swimming & Diving to Host Auburn

BATON ROUGE — After a month since its first dual meet, the LSU men’s swimming and diving team (0-1 Overall, 0-1 SEC) takes on Auburn Saturday, at 11 a.m. in the LSU Natatorium.

The men’s diving team looks to continue its success from the Georgia meet. Last time out; senior diver Sean McKinney posted NCAA Zone Diving qualifying scores in both the 1-meter and 3-meter. His score of 378.15 in the 1-meter was also a career high.

Senior Kevin Leong looks to continue his success after second place finishes in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. Freshman Zakary Rowton also posted third place in the 1-meter and fourth in the 3-meter dive against Georgia.

“It’s great to bring in top level competition so early in the year to challenge our athletes,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “We need to bring everything we have and we have to be sharp. We’re continuing to build toward NCAA Championships and this is a building block for that.”

On the swimming side, Junior Frank Greeff is looking to get his first win of the year after a second place finish in the 200 butterfly and third place in the 400 butterfly. Greeff was also a part of the relay team that finished second.

Junior Michael Young will also return to action after a third place finish in the 100 backstroke. Young was a part of the 400 freestyle relay team that finished third and the 200-medley relay team that finished second.

Sophomore Gabe Rooker looks to continue progressing after a phenomenal freshman year. At the Georgia meet, Rooker place second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 breaststroke.

“It’s a great opportunity to see the development of where we are time and performance wise,” LSU swimming coach Dave Geyer said. “Physically, the meet will be a little more of a challenge being men only. It’s an opportunity to welcome what has been historically the strongest in the conference and country. We’ll look to evaluate and see where we are going into midseason.”

Make sure to get out to the Natatorium early as the first 125 fans will receive free LSU Swimming and Diving tanks. Also, jambalaya will be given out to all fans during the first diving break.
