Getting to Know: Eleanor Carter

BATON ROUGE – The Cox Communications Academic Center for Student Athletes recently welcomed Eleanor Carter onto its staff of Learning Specialists.

“I am thrilled and extremely honored to join the team at LSU’s Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes,” Carter said. “It is a privilege to be a part of such a tremendous program and work with such a highly skilled and dedicated staff. I strongly believe all students are capable of greatness, and I am dedicated to helping students develop the skills needed to get there. Above all, I am dedicated to equipping student-athletes with the academic, social and life skills needed to reach and exceed their potential as students, athletes, and adults. I’m excited to join the Student Learning Program with equally high expectations and dedication. I am thankful to Mr. Miles and the search committee members for this opportunity and proud to be a part of the LSU family.”

Carter comes to LSU with experience as a student-athlete mentor at the University of Georgia, an associate kindergarten teacher at East End Preparatory Elementary School in Nashville, Tenn., and an intern with Metro Nashville Public Schools.

As a Student-Athlete Mentor at UGA, Carter helped “at-risk” student-athletes prepare for academic challenges and life beyond the playing field.  She worked with athletes individually to help develop plans to address holes in their learning skills and life skills to help them become successful adults.

During her time as an associate kindergarten teacher at East End, Carter worked with children from the most underserved areas of Nashville.  She gained experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with learning challenges and disabilities.

While working for Metro Nashville Public Schools, Carter assisted in research and development for Race to the Top academic intervention programs.  She worked with their strategic planning team to provide workshops, presentations, and focus groups for Metro Nashville teachers.

Through her work with UGA, East End, and Metro Nashville Public Schools, Carter has extensive training in academic support roles.

“Ms. Carter brings with her enthusiasm and dedication to assisting student-athletes with academic, social, and life skills,” said Louise Bodack, the CCACSA’s Assistant Director of the Student Learning Program. “Over the past several years, she has pursued options that would prepare her for this position.  It is evident that she has a great love of learning and desires to understand student development.  Her skill set complements those of her colleagues, and we are delighted that she is now part of the talented team at the Cox Communications Academic Center for Student-Athletes at LSU.  I am excited to be working with her in assisting student-athletes with both learning and life skills.”

Carter earned a Master of Public Administration with concentrations in Education Policy and Program Development from Georgia.  She has also earned a Bachelor of Arts from UGA.
