Soccer Announces Changes to 2011 Schedule

BATON ROUGE – As the Tigers prepare to unveil the new LSU Soccer Complex for the 2011 season, head coach Brian Lee announced Wednesday the addition of Pepperdine to the squad’s home slate as part of an exciting home opening weekend that also features a match against Oregon.

The Tigers will welcome the Pepperdine Waves of the West Coast Conference to Baton Rouge for a game on Sunday, Sept. 11, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. CDT at the new LSU Soccer Complex.

2011 Schedule

LSU is now set to open its new stadium on Friday, Sept. 9, at 7:30 p.m. with its match against the Oregon Ducks of the Pac 12 Conference. It’s a match that comes just one week after the Tigers kick off the 2011 college football season against Oregon in a battle of what is sure to feature top-five teams in the Cowboys Classic to be held Saturday, Sept. 3, at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

As part of its home opening weekend, the LSU Soccer Complex will also play host to a pair of games that feature Illinois against Pepperdine on Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. and Illinois against Oregon on Sept. 11 at 11 a.m.

In addition, LSU will now go on the road to battle the Houston Cougars on Tuesday, Sept. 6, with its start time set for 7 p.m. at Robertson Stadium in Houston.

“I know our fans will be very excited about the home schedule that we’ve put together this fall,” Lee said. “We’re pleased to add a quality program like Pepperdine to what is already a strong non-conference slate. This is exactly the kind of schedule needed to prepare our team to compete for an SEC championship and an appearance in postseason play. That’s always the goal in our program at LSU.

“We’re very appreciative of these teams and coaches for working with us to solidify our schedule this fall as we anticipate an exciting season of soccer in our new stadium. We know that our fans are going to turn out in big numbers to support this program like they always have.”

LSU is set to kick off the 2011 season on Aug. 19 with a challenging road test versus the Memphis Tigers as kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CDT at the Mike Rose Soccer Stadium in Memphis, Tenn.
