No. 23 Softball Continues Road Swing at Ole Miss
OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 23 LSU softball team continues a stretch of nine of 10 games from Tiger Park with a weekend series at Ole Miss. Friday’s series opener is slated for 5 p.m. and will be televised on ESPNU. Saturday and Sunday’s action will begin at 1 p.m.
LSU (28-15, 10-9 SEC) is coming off a doubleheader sweep at Auburn and moved into sole possession of second place in the SEC Western Division standings.
The Tigers have won 38 of 44 previous meeting with Ole Miss (14-33, 3-17 SEC). Lindsey Perry has tallied 11 of the 14 wins in the circle for the Rebels. She has 97 strikeouts in her 111.1 innings of work. Offensively, Londen Ladner has knocked a team-high five home runs to go along with 20 RBIs.
“We have to be prepared to play well at Ole Miss like we did against Auburn,” head coach Yvette Girouard said. “They [Ole Miss] have given teams some trouble and carried a lead into the sixth inning during one of their games at Georgia last weekend.”
Juliana Santos is swinging a hot bat and ripped 15 hits over her last 35 at-bats during the month of April. She has posted seven RBIs and boosted her average by 70 points during the run.
Ashley Langoni has provided a hit in 12 of her last 19 games and compiled five RBIs during the Auburn doubleheader to bring her total to 29 for the season.
Simone Heyward brings a team-best .282 batting average into the weekend. The Tigers are 17-2 this season when Heyward scores a run. She garnered a 3-for-7 performance versus Auburn and has batted in the No. 9 hole during LSU’s last three games.
Tammy Wray has come away with hits during three of her last six games. She blasted her seventh home run of the season in game one against Auburn. For the season, Wray is third on the squad with 27 RBIs.
In the circle, Rachele Fico and Brittany Mack secured their 11th wins of the season at Auburn. For Mack, it matched her personal watermark from her freshman season. Fico enters the weekend series three strikeouts away from reaching 300 for her career.
Live audio and live stats for all three games of the Ole Miss series will be available in the Geaux Zone on LSUsports.net in addition to being carried live on ESPN 104.5 FM with Patrick Wright and Matt Dunaway calling the action.
