Women's Track & Field Moves to No. 2 in Nation

BATON ROUGE – With the release of the first updated national ranking of the 2011 outdoor season on Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Tigers have climbed one spot to No. 2 nationally and the Tigers have stayed at No. 5 nationally in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25.

The Lady Tigers are off to a fast start in the outdoor season as they have jumped up one spot from the No. 3 ranking they received in the USTFCCCA Preseason Top 25 ranking released two weeks ago. LSU trails only defending NCAA Outdoor champion Texas A&M as the Aggie women have held onto their top spot from the preseason. Rounding out the top five are No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Oklahoma and No. 5 Clemson.

The Tigers have held onto the No. 5 national ranking they received in the preseason, trailing only Florida at No. 1, Texas A&M at No. 2, Texas Tech at No. 3 and Florida State at No. 4 this week.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers have combined for three NCAA-leading performances during three weeks of the outdoor season as sophomore Kimberlyn Duncan ranks No. 1 in the women’s 200-meter dash (20.76), senior Brittany Hall ranks No. 1 in the women’s 800 meters (2:04.88) and the men’s 4×100-meter relay of Barrett Nugent, Horatio Williams, Keyth Talley and Gabriel Mvumvure ranks No. 1 at 38.87 seconds.

The Tigers and Lady Tigers are gearing up for an exciting weekend as they head to Austin, Texas, for this year’s 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays beginning Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
