Women's Golf Improves on Day 2 at Liz Murphey

BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s golf team used a one-under par final nine holes to improve its best ball score to eight-over par on the second day and moved from 18th to 15th place after 36 holes of the unique best-ball format of the 39th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.

LSU shot 296 on the scoring of the low four scores on each hole to stand at 23-over par 599, tied with Oklahoma for 15th place. Alabama used a three over par total of 291 to move to the lead at one-over best-ball after 36 holes. First-round leader Purdue is four shots back at five-over par and host Georgia is four more strokes back at nine-over par.

Senior Megan McChrystal shot four-over 76 on the second day and moved up 20 spots to 39th with a 36-hole total of 10-over 154. Freshman Austin Ernst shot a four-over 76 as well in the second round with junior Jacqueline Hedwall posting 78, sophomore Mary Michael Maggio 79 and senior Amalie Valle a 79.

The individual leader is Purdue’s Numa Gulyanamitta at even par 144 (71-73).

The shotgun start of the final round has been moved up to 7:30 a.m. CDT and live scoring will be available at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
