BATON ROUGE — The LSU diving corps wrapped up the LSU Diving Invitational Saturday as freshman Sean McKinney led the charge with a third-place finish in the men’s platform competition.
McKinney delivered a 290.60 score to improve upon his previous career best of 272.35 set at last month’s Cougar Classic Invitational. Fellow freshman Daniel Helm finished right behind McKinney in fourth-place after posting a mark of 281.50.
Junior Matt Vieke earned sixth-place with a career-high score of 274.50.
Sophomore Rebecca St. Germain led the Lady Tigers in the women’s platform, placing fourth with a season-high 210.90 points, while fellow sophomore Elle Schmidt recorded a career high of 195.75 to take fifth.
“I think the weekend went great,” co-head coach Doug Shaffer said. “We made some progress on platform, but we still have work to do. Overall, I’m happy with a number of individual performances and our group as a whole.
“We’ll get back in the water on Dec. 29 after the holiday break, and we look forward to starting the second half of our season at the Tennessee Diving Invite.”
Auburn’s Dan Mazzaferro came away with the men’s platform title with a 461.75 score, while fellow Tiger Vennie Dantin emerged victorious in the women’s competition (303.35).
The LSU divers will return to action on Jan. 3 when they take part in the Tennessee Diving Invitational.
