Trepp Advances to World Championship Final

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — LSU’s Jane Trepp took another step forward in her international swimming career Thursday, qualifying for her first final at the 2010 FINA World Short-Course Championships in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Lady Tigers’ five-time NCAA All-American placed sixth in the semifinals of the women’s 100-meter individual medley and will vie for a spot on the medal podium in Friday’s final. Fans can follow the live timing of the event tomorrow morning at www.omegatiming.com (session begins at 9 a.m., CST in the United States).

Trepp earned a spot in the final with a strong effort in the last 50 meters of her semifinal race. The Estonian recorded a breaststroke-freestyle split of 31.92 seconds, second-best in the field, to finish with a 59.77 clocking. She tied for second in the prelims with a time of 1:00.01.

The senior is also scheduled to compete in the 100m breaststroke Friday unless she chooses to scratch that race to concentrate on the 100m IM final.
