Tennis' Loup, Borsos Advance in Athens
ATHENS, Ga. – Two LSU men’s tennis pairs earned doubles victories on day two of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., at the University of Georgia’s Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The tandem of Cody Loup and Olivier Borsos defeated Georgia State’s Thomas Cook and Juan Pablo Gutierrez 8-3 in the doubles flight B round of 32. The duo then clinched a spot in the quarterfinals, taking a tight match against Elon’s Tommy Darling and Eric Turner 9-8(2).
Jordan Girdley and David Roberts also clinched a round of 32 victory against Mississippi State’s Tanner Stump and Hrehan Hakkem 8-3, but fell to Mercer’s Peter Taucher and Evandro Rosindo 8-6 in the next round.
Earlier in the day, Roberts clinched a straight set win against Georgia Southern’s Alex Yuille 6-0, 6-1 in a flight C match.
“It was another good weekend for us in the early fall,” said LSU head coach Jeff Brown. “I have seen a lot of improvement from the guys in both singles and doubles, and we are looking forward to the matches tomorrow.”
The Tigers will take the court tomorrow morning beginning at 9 a.m. (CT) for day three of the four day tournament.
