Lady Tigers Tennis Heads to Indiana
BATON ROUGE – The LSU women’s tennis team returns to action this weekend when it travels to Bloomington, Ind., to compete in the Hoosier Classic at Indiana University’s Tennis Center, beginning Friday at 9:30 a.m. (CT).
“The Hoosier Classic is always a good tournament for us,” head coach Tony Minnis said. “This is the first action for Kaitlin and Kylie, and Ebie and Alexus both played well at the SEC Coaches’ Classic a few weeks ago, so we are excited about this competition.”
Burns will compete for the first time this season as the Wilmington, N.C., native will face Kansas State’s Petra Niedermayerova in the first round of the Flight 1 singles draw. A 2010 All-Louisiana Second Team performer, Burns recorded a 20-18 overall singles record and finished last season ranked 12th in the ITA Southern Region polls.
Wilson will take on Cincinnati’s Ashleigh Witte in the Flight 2 singles draw Friday. The Mobile, Ala., product got off to a solid start two weeks ago, winning two of three singles matches over Southeastern Conference opponents at the SEC Coaches’ Classic.
Coats, who also notched a singles victory at the SEC Coaches’ Classic, will square off against Cincinnati’s Caitlin O’Gara in the Flight 3 singles draw. Adamek, who amassed a 7-13 singles record last season, will go up against Cincinnati’s Sabrina Jetli in the Flight 4 draw.
In doubles, the duo of Burns and Coates earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of Jasmine Lee/Safiyya Ismail (Cincinnati) and Ana Gomez Aleman/Nina Sertic (Kansas St.) on Saturday. Wilson and Adamek will challenge Sydnee Bridger and Katie Thome of Miami (Ohio).
