McChrystal Named National Golfer of the Week
BATON ROUGE – Both Golf World and Golfweek agree. Megan McChrystal‘s 10-under winning performance in last week’s NCAA Fall Preview is good enough for her to be national women’s college player of the week by both publications.
McChrystal posted a final round 65 with birdies on five of the last six holes to win going away with a school record score of 10-under par 206, defeating a field that included 30 of the top 50 players in the Golfweek preseason top 50 players to watch. She won by two shots over Vanderbilt’s Marina Alex.
It was the fourth collegiate win for the senior from Stuart, Fla., putting her alone in third place in the school’s all-time win list behind Jenny Lidback (seven) and Kristi Coats (six).
The Lady Tigers were as a team listed No. 4 in the Golf World Fab 5 for this week. The magazine’s College Insider commented, “The Tigers gave Alabama all is could handle down the stretch at the NCAA Preview, losing out by one stroke. The good news too for LSU fans was that it was more than just Megan McChrystal carry the team on her back … the group got contributions from all five players during the week. Now let’s see them do it again at the Mason Rudolph.”
That’s where LSU heads this weekend, to Franklin, Tenn., outside of Nashville for the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championships, Friday-Sunday at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The lineup will be the same as the fall preview with McChrystal, Tessa Teachman, Amalie Valle, Jacqueline Hedwall and Mary Michael Maggio.
