Swimming & Diving Alumni Reunite

BATON ROUGE — More than 85 former LSU men’s and women’s swimmers and divers reunited this past weekend for the programs’ Alumni Reunion.

With the help of LSU’s Special Events and Community Relations Coordinator Ashley Winning and her staff, the alumni gathered at Mike Anderson’s Restaurant Friday night along with the current LSU coaching staff to catch up and share memories of their LSU experience.

On Saturday the alumni challenged the current men’s and women’s teams to a “Purple vs. Old” meet before coming together at a tailgate party and enjoying the football game in Tiger Stadium.

“We were very excited to have our alumni reunion,” co-head coach Doug Shaffer said. “It’s been a long time since we had a reunion, and we doubled the attendance since our last one in 2005. In fact, this was the largest turnout we’ve ever had at an alumni event. We are going to do this every year.

“The bottom line is we want LSU swimming and diving alums back on campus and supporting our program because they’ve all been a part of it. We appreciate what they’ve done and what they can bring back to our program.”

Video highlights of the Friday night social and Saturday morning’s Purple vs. Old meet will be posted on www.LSUsports.net as well as the programs’ official Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/LSUswimdive.
