Gymnastics Takes Part in Annual Team Building
BATON ROUGE – Gearing up for the start of fall practice, the 2011 LSU gymnastics team participated in two team building workouts as part of the University Recreation Challenge Program at the UREC Sport & Adventure Complex on Monday and Tuesday.
The team worked together and competed against each other at times in various obstacles and challenges like tightrope walking and climbing exercises.
“Anything we can do to enhance their ability to work together and develop a team personality and culture is what we are trying to do,” head coach D-D Breaux said. “We’re excited because we know we are young and inexperienced, but at the same time we have great leadership from our returning kids.”
The team worked on communication and problem-solving skills as well as developing trust with each other.
After the team struggled to complete part of the ropes course Monday, they rallied and worked together to overcome the exercise Tuesday.
“The team really benefitted from the experience, and the culmination of this week will be a team gathering where we will develop and set team goals as we head into our fall practice schedule,” Breaux said.
LSU opens fall practice Thursday afternoon in the Carl Maddox Field House, and the first intrasquad meet is set for Oct. 29 in the practice area.
