BATON ROUGE – For the second year in a row, a member of the nationally-ranked LSU men’s golf program has been honored by the Southeastern Conference with a first-team selection to its all-conference squad as junior All-America candidate Andrew Loupe received the award on Tuesday afternoon.
After teammate and fellow junior John Peterson was honored as a First-Team All-SEC selection a season ago, Loupe became LSU’s 30th member of the first-team squad with his selection on Tuesday.
A Baton Rouge native, Loupe has taken his performance to another level during his junior campaign as he has cemented his position as a true All-American and one of the premier players in the college game.
Loupe leads the team and is currently ranked No. 8 among players in the SEC with a 72.09 stroke average while appearing in all 11 tournaments for the Tigers this year, which is nearly a two-stroke improvement from the 73.72 scoring average he posted as a sophomore last season. Not only that, but four top-five, five top-10 and seven top-20 finishes also rank among the SEC leaders and lead the team this season.
Loupe captured his first career individual title earlier this season with a win at the Louisiana Classics with a season-low and career-low tournament score of 8-under par 208.
He solidified his First-Team All-SEC resume nearly two weeks ago when he earned his first ever top-five and top-10 finish at the SEC Men’s Golf Championships by tying for fourth place. It marked the second year in a row that an LSU Tiger finished in the top five of the leaderboard at the SEC Championships.
With his performance this year, Loupe has earned a No. 47 ranking in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index that ranks the top players at the collegiate level.
