Volleyball Claims SEC Beach Championship
SIESTA KEY, Fla. – The LSU volleyball team tallied 77 points to edge out Florida en route to the third annual SEC Coaches Beach Championships on the sands of Siesta Key.
The defending SEC champions used a total team effort as all four teams made the gold playoff bracket. Michele Williams and Angela Bensend led the way finishing in a tie for third place, while Brittany Johnson and Lauren Waclawczyk checked in a four-way tie for fifth place. No other SEC school had more than two teams qualify for the playoff.
“All of our teams did an amazing job during this event. It really is a testament to how hard our team has worked during the spring,” assistant coach Steve Loeswick said. “We showed how deep we are talent wise, and how well we were able to work within our 2 person teams. Our team also played composed volleyball in close matches. All in all, it was a great victory for Tiger volleyball.”
LSU plays host to its spring tournament Saturday as South Alabama, Southern Miss and Southeastern Louisiana visit the Auxiliary Gym of the Maravich Center. Admission is free to the event and fans are asked to enter through the Northwest Corridor of the arena. A full tournament schedule is below.
