Men's Golf Fourth Through Two Rounds in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – Junior Andrew Loupe put his All-America form on display during Monday’s action at the 44th-annual Morris Williams Intercollegiate as he led the 23rd-ranked LSU men’s golf team into fourth place in the team standings following the second round at the University of Texas Golf Club.

The Tigers recorded consecutive rounds of 8-over 292 and 14-over 298 for a 36-hole score of 22-over par 590 to finish the day in sole possession of fourth place in an outstanding 15-team field.

The homestanding and No. 7-ranked Texas Longhorns hold a one-shot lead over New Mexico following a two-round total of 11-over 579. The 19th-ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders sit in third place at 18-over 586, while the fifth-ranked Texas A&M Aggies round out the top five in fifth place at 24-over 592.

John Catlin of New Mexico and Ben Tewes of SMU wrapped up the second round in a tie atop the leader board after firing matching 36-hole scores of even-par 142.

Loupe currently sits two shots back in a tie for sixth place overall as he is in position to earn his fifth Top 10 finish of the season. After finishing the first round in a tie for second place with an impressive score of 2-under 69, Loupe carded a 4-over 75 to finish the day in a two-way tie for sixth place at 2-over 144. That performance has him on track for his fifth Top 10 finish in his last seven tournament appearances.

The Baton Rouge native teed off in Monday’s first round as the No. 39-ranked player in the college game according to Golfweek. Loupe has proven to be a true All-SEC and All-America contender with his effort this spring while averaging a team-leading 72.0 strokes per round.

Fellow junior and All-America candidate John Peterson finished the day in a tie for 23rd place with a two-round total of 6-over 148, including a 1-over 72 in the first round and a 5-over 76 in the second round.

While Loupe led the Tigers with a 2-under 69 in the first round, sophomore Josh Jones set the pace in the second round while firing a 1-over 73. Jones also scored a 5-over par 76 in the first round to finish the day in a tie for 29th place overall with a 36-hole total of 7-over 149. Sophomores Austin Gutgsell and Sang Yi each tied for 45th place with matching scores of 10-over 152.

The Tigers are paired with Arkansas and Texas A&M in Tuesday’s final round and will open up from the front nine beginning at 8:45 a.m. CT.
