Lady Tigers Golfers Eighth at Bryan National

GREENSBORO, N.C. – LSU shot the second lowest round of the final day of the Bryan National Collegiate, a one-over par 289 and finished in eighth place in the final regular season tournament of the spring semester.

The 17th-ranked Lady Tigers now prepare for the Southeastern Conference Women’s Championships which are set for Tuscaloosa in two weeks.

It was a case of improvement as the weekend went on as LSU started 18-over par and in 12th place and finished at 26-over 890 (306-295-289). Florida State won the event with a nine-over par 873, one shot better than Wake Forest at 10-over 874. It was 12 shots back to Ohio State, Vanderbilt and Duke tying at 22-over 886 in third, a position LSU was looking at late in the round.

The Lady Tigers had the round as low as five under par early on the second nine holes and was at one point in a tie for third, before dropping a few strokes late for their final position.

Jacqueline Hedwall had a strong 54-hole tournament for LSU, shooting rounds of 73-72-73 to finish in ninth place at two-over par 218. She finished seven shots behind Cheyenne Woods of Wake Forest who posted a five-under par 211.

In the final round, LSU also counted a one-under 71 from Tessa Teachman, an even par 72 from Megan McChrystal and an impressive one-over 73 from Mary Michael Maggio, the best round the freshman had on the weekend in her first tournament back from between semester shoulder surgery.

Teachman, who made a big move up the standings after an even par 72 on Saturday, moved from 38th to 20th in the final individual standings with a one-under par 71.

“We learned some lessons in the first round,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “We played solid golf the last two days, especially (Sunday). That was impressive. It could have even been lower, but I’m very pleased with a round like that going into the SEC Tournament. Now if we can continue to put things together like that, I like how we are coming into the event.”
