Lady Tigers Tied for 12th at Bryan National

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The 17th-ranked LSU Lady Tiger golf team struggled out of the gate in the opening round of the Bryan National Collegiate Friday and stands in a tie for 12th place after an opening round 18-over 306.

LSU is tied with Arkansas at the 306 total. Tennessee is the first round leader at one-under 287, two shots ahead of co-host Wake Forest at 289.

LSU’s four counting scores were just six-over at the turn, but was unable to get any momentum going on the final nine holes with five double bogeys keeping LSU in a bit of trouble.

“It was just one of those days,” said LSU Coach Karen Bahnsen. “No excuses. We just lost any momentum on the back nine, but we’ll get it going (Saturday).”

Jacqueline Hedwall had a very good round of one-over 73 as Hedwall had three birdies and four bogeys on her round to stand in a group tied for 17th place. LSU also had a 76 from Amalie Valle, a 78 from defending champion Megan McChrystal and 79s from Tessa Teachman and Mary Michael Maggio.

For Maggio it marked her return from shoulder surgery after the fall semester. The freshman turned at one-over but had four bogeys and a double on her final nine holes.

The second round is set for 7:20 a.m. on Saturday and live scoring will be available at LSUsports.net through Golfstat.com.
