BATON ROUGE – LSUsports.net will get to know the seven newcomers on the Tiger softball team leading into the 2010 season. Today’s edition features Rachele Fico.
Fico compiled an impressive 105-3 record with a stifling 0.07 ERA at Masuk High School in Connecticut. She racked up 1,884 strikeouts over 775 innings and fired 26 perfect games, a national high school record. Fico’s list of accolades includes 2008 and 2009 Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year along with Louisville Slugger/NFCA and EA Sports High School All-America First-Team honors.
“We practice extremely hard every day as a team to get better,” Fico said. “I’m working to make my spins tighter and trying to hit all my spots to be the most accurate pitcher I can be.”
LSU opens the 2010 season against No. 19 North Carolina, No. 21 DePaul and host Texas, a trio of 2009 NCAA Tournament squads, at the Time Warner Cable Texas Invitational on February 12-14.
