Swimmer Trepp Fifth in 100 I.M. in Turkey

ISTANBUL, Turkey — LSU swimmer Jane Trepp registered her second top-five finish of the 2009 European Short-Course Swimming Championships Saturday in Istanbul, Turkey, racing to fifth-place in the 100-meter individual medley.

Trepp, who won a silver medal in the 50m breaststroke Thursday, swam to a mark of 59.53 seconds in the 100m I.M. The Estonian also competed in the 100m breast, placing 27th (1:07.73), and helped her country’s 4×50 medley relay finish 12th with a 30.32 split on the breaststroke leg.

Men’s swimmer Andrei Tuomola reached his second semifinal of the competition, qualifying in the 50m breast with a 26.76 clocking. The Haarajoki, Finland, native just missed the finals of that race, finishing one spot out in 11th-place with a time of 26.64. The freshman also touched the wall in 54.56 in the 100m I.M. to take 25th.

The 2009 European Short-Course Championships will conclude Sunday. Trepp is scheduled to take part in the 50m freestyle, while Tuomola figures to play a role on his country’s 4×50 free relay. Live results will be available at www.omegatiming.com.
