Football Jumps to No. 2 in Coaches Poll; No. 3 in AP

BATON ROUGE — LSU made another move in the USA Today Coaches Poll on Sunday, jumping three spots to No. 2 in the nation following its 34-24 Southeastern Conference win over Mississippi State on Saturday night in Tiger Stadium.

LSU, now 4-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, also jumped from No. 6 to No. 3 in the Associated Press Top 25. The Harris Interactive Poll, which is also part of the BCS Standings formula, has LSU ranked No. 2 in its first poll of the year, which was released on Sunday.

Oklahoma is the top-ranked team in all three polls.

LSU’s No. 2/3 national ranking this week extends the Tigers streak of consecutive weeks in the top 10 to a school-record 27 straight periods. LSU has been ranked in the top 10 of every USA Today Coaches Poll and the AP Top 25 since Nov. 12, 2006.

The Tigers have also spent a school-record 88 consecutive weeks in the USA Today Coaches Poll and for 87 straight weeks in the AP Poll. The last time LSU failed to make the top 25 in either poll came following the Tigers loss to Texas in the 2003 Cotton Bowl to conclude the 2002 season.

LSU will enjoy an open date this weekend before traveling to face Florida on Oct. 11 in Gainesville.
