Hedberg Unable to Advance in All-American Draw

MALIBU, Calif. — LSU women’s tennis player Mykala Hedberg fell in three sets on Saturday to Brown’s Bianca Aboubakare 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 in the first round of the pre-qualifying bracket of the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Malibu, Calif.

Hedberg will have to wait three days to compete again at the All-American Championships, but she will team up with Megan Falcon on Tuesday to play in the doubles qualifying round of the tournament in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

“Mykala played very hard and lost a hard-fought match. She saved 11 match points in the second set before falling in three,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “I look forward to seeing Mykala and Megan fight hard in doubles.”

Hedberg and Falcon are 4-0 on the season, ranked No. 11 nationally and will be listed as the No. 1 seed in the qualifying rounds.
