BATON ROUGE — Kent Lowe and Alex Restrepo of the LSU Sports Information Department claimed a total of five district awards for athletic feature stories in the 2008 Fred S. Stabley Sr. Writing Contest, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced earlier this week.

Restrepo, former sports information director for men’s tennis, took three first-place awards, claiming top-notch in District 6 for his profiles on Glenn Dorsey, “Full Throttle: Glenn Dorsey Never Slows Down” and Les Miles, “Follow the Hat: Miles Celebrates Title Near and Far.” He also received first place for his event coverage feature “GameDay Xtra: Behind the Scenes with CBS Sports.”

In addition to his first-place awards, the Mandeville native received second place for “The Flynn Ultimatum,” earning him two out of three places in the Athlete Profile category.

Lowe, associate sports information director, took second place in the district for his profile “The Coach,” giving LSU the honor of earning two out of three places in the category for Coach and Administrator Profiles as well.

The contest received a total of 388 entries that were judged first at the district level, with district winners advancing before a national committee.
