Tennis Team to Begin Fall Season in Lafayette, Irvine
BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team will send eight to Lafayette this weekend to open its fall season at the ULL Invitational, while three Tigers will journey to Irvine, Calif., to enter the qualifying round for the Irvine Pro Futures tournament.
The Tiger’s regular fall season opener at the Rice Invitational was canceled last weekend due to the effects of Hurricane Ike on Houston and the surrounding areas.
“With the Rice tournament being canceled the guys are eager to play matches,” LSU head coach Jeff Brown said. “They want to see where their hard work has put them and hope to gain confidence from the tournament.”
The trip to Lafayette will mark the eighth-straight year that the Tigers have competed in the ULL tournament, which is set to begin Friday and end Sunday. Julien Gauthier, Ryan Lissner and Jonathan Tragardh are three LSU veterans of the ULL tournament that will also compete in this year’s competition.
Matches begin Friday at 8:30 a.m. and will take place on the Cajun Courts at the Culotta Tennis Center in Lafayette.
Heading to the west coast are three members of the team. LSU’s Sebastian Carlsson, James Cluskey and Michael Venus will head to Irvine, Calif. over the weekend for the qualifying rounds of the Pro Futures tournament, which is slated to begin September 22.
