Soccer Match Against Houston Moved to Sept. 16
BATON ROUGE — The 12th-ranked LSU soccer team was set to resume its home schedule with a match against Houston on Sunday, but officials of the two schools have elected to move the game to Tuesday evening with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Complex.
The decision was made in preparation of potential travel complications this weekend as Hurricane Ike is expected to make landfall along the Texas coast early Saturday morning.
“We certainly felt it was best for everyone involved that the game be delayed until Tuesday,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “Safety is the No. 1 priority when faced with a situation like this, and logistically it just wouldn’t be possible for this game to be played on Sunday.”
Before battling the Cougars on Tuesday with a chance to extend its school record home unbeaten streak to 14 games, LSU will travel to Lafayette on Friday to take on in-state rival Louisiana-Lafayette in a match scheduled for a 5 p.m. kickoff at the Cajuns Track and Soccer Complex. The Tigers have raced out to a perfect 4-0 start this season.
