Women's Golf 13th in Golfweek Preseason Poll

BATON ROUGE — The LSU women’s golf team, coming off a 15th-place finish in the 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships, is ranked 13th in the preseason poll of Golfweek Magazine’s top 30 teams announced this weekend in preparation for the start of the fall competition season.

The Lady Tigers return three players from the five that played in the championships ? senior Caroline Martens and sophomores Amalie Valle and Megan McChrystal. McChrystal led the team in stroke average and during the summer advanced through three rounds in the final 64 of the United States Women’s Amateur. Valle and Martens, both from Norway, also had good summers on the links.

The team, coached by Karen Bahnsen (entering her 25th year as the head coach of the Lady Tigers), also had one of the top recruiting classes in the country with the addition of freshmen Tessa Teachman of Baton Rouge and Jacqueline Hedwall of Sweden. Both Hedwall and Teachman are mentioned by Golfweek as freshmen to keep an eye on during the 2008-09 season.

The team opens up its fall season at the Cougar Classic hosted by the College of Charleston Sept. 14-16, at Hanahan, S. C.
