Third-Seed Arkansas Eliminates Lady Tigers Tennis, 4-0

AUBURN, Ala. — Less than a week after the LSU women’s tennis team upset 16th-ranked Arkansas in Baton Rouge, the Lady Tigers fell, 4-0, in the quarterfinals of the Southeastern Conference Tournament on Friday.

Last week in Baton Rouge the doubles point lasted nearly two hours, and LSU (14-9) came away victorious on courts 1 and 3. This time LSU fell on courts 2 and 3 to lose the doubles point to Arkansas.

In singles, Arkansas (15-8) capitalized on the momentum and made it 2-0 when Audrey Bordeleau got past Tiffany Tucker, 6-1, 6-4.

Coming into the match, LSU’s 12th-ranked Megan Falcon and Arkansas’ second-ranked Aurelija Miseviciute had each won a match against the other. In the fall, Miseviciute upended Falcon in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. However, last weekend in Baton Rouge, Falcon avenged the loss by beating Miseviciute in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1.

In the third match between the two, Miseviciute put Arkansas up 3-0 by beating Falcon, 6-4, 6-1.

For only the second time this season, both Falcon and Hannah Robinson lost in the same match, as Robinson fell, 6-1, 7-5 on court 3 in the match clincher to Anouk Tigu.

When play was suspended, LSU’s Nicole Kantor was up one set, 6-4, 2-4, and was looking for her fifth straight victory.

“I give Arkansas a lot of credit,” LSU head coach Tony Minnis said. “They played today with a lot of confidence. After beating them last week, they came after us from the very first point and played an outstanding match. We just have to regroup and use these couple of weeks off to prepare for the NCAA tournament. We’re playing good tennis and have played better at the end of the season, so we just need to focus on doing well at the NCAA tournament.”

LSU will return to Baton Rouge and await its fate until April 29 when the NCAA will announce the bracket and determine where the Lady Tigers will play next.
