Dessauer Named to SEC Community Service Team
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Senior Kevin Dessauer of the 18th-ranked LSU men’s tennis team was named to the Southeastern Conference Community Service Team, the league office announced Thursday.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams in all 20 sports. The Community Service Team looks to highlight athletes from the SEC who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.
The award comes on the same day Dessauer clinched LSU’s win over Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament. LSU’s team captain has earned three SEC postseason awards as he was also named the conference’s Co-Scholar Athlete of the Year and received second-team All-conference honors.
Dessauer teamed up with Shaquille O’Neal and 84 Lumber in building Polk Elementary a new playground in the fall. The New Orleans native also visited a paralyzed high school football player in the hospital to motivate and cheer him up.
Dessauer participated in the Big Buddy’s Day of Mentor Program, where he met two elementary students and brought them on campus to follow him around for the day. He gave them a glimpse of what it is like to be student-athlete at LSU.
Dessauer spearheaded the Halloween BOOzar project this year, where he helped organize the tennis station for the kids to participate in. the 6-2 senior took park in the LSU Christmas Toy Drive, where the men’s tennis team adopted an underprivileged little boy for Christmas and helped raise money to buy the boy clothes and toys.
