Men's Tennis Ranked No. 18 Entering Postseason
BATON ROUGE — The LSU men’s tennis team is listed at No. 18 in the latest national rankings, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Tuesday.
LSU wrapped up regular-season play Saturday by defeating Arkansas, 5-2, to push its record to 13-7 and 6-5 in Southeastern Conference play. The Tigers head back to Fayetteville, Ark., for their next competition in the SEC Tournament. LSU is the sixth seed and will take on 11th-seeded Mississippi State on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. CT.
All 12 SEC teams, including six in the top 20, represent the conference in the ITA rankings. Georgia (No. 3), Ole Miss (No. 6), Tennessee (No. 8), Florida (No. 12) and Alabama (No. 19) all carry top-20 rankings entering the SEC Tournament.
LSU has won three matches against top-25 teams this season. They garnered wins against No.12 Florida, No. 22 Rice and No. 23 Texas A&M during the regular season.
In individual rankings, Tigers Michael Venus and Jan Zelezny remained in the singles rankings at No. 39 and No. 110, respectively. The doubles combination of Venus and James Cluskey jumped four spots to No. 26.
LSU enters the SEC Tournament with an all-time tournament record of 20-16 and two SEC Tournament titles (1998, 1999) under its belt.
