Diver Brown Named Member of 'Tiger Twelve'
BATON ROUGE — Senior Paige Brown of the LSU diving team was named as a member of the Tiger Twelve, which honors 12 LSU seniors who have shown great academic success and contributed significantly to the Baton Rouge Community, the LSU Office of the Dean of Students announced.
Brown, along with the 11 other recipients, will be honored on Sunday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at a reception in the LSU Faculty Club.
“Paige has been a model student-athlete in every sense,” LSU diving coach Doug Shaffer said. “Not only has she succeeded in one of the premiere conferences (Southeastern Conference) in diving, but she has also upheld very high academic standards and contributed a vast amount of time in the community. We are very proud of Paige’s accomplishments and how she has represented LSU.”
Brown, a senior from Baton Rouge, La., has been listed on the SEC Honor Roll the past four seasons while holding a 3.91 grade-point average and a perfect 4.0 G.P.A. in Bio-Engineering. She has been named the Wally Pontiff Academic Excellence Award winner, for LSU Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the past two seasons.
The senior Lady Tiger has received numerous scholarships for her academic success; most recently she received the 2008 SEC H. Boyd McWhorter Post Grad scholarship.
She earned the Richard L. Bengston Scholarship and the Carl H. Thomas Memorial Scholarship, both given by the Department of Biological Engineering at LSU.
Brown spent last summer conducting research on a BioMEMS design for detection of apoptosis. The Bio-Engineering major serves as an intern at LSU’s department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering.
In 1995, students, staff and faculty came together to craft a statement of position regarding our basic principles as an academic community. The LSU Commitment to Community states our expectations for each of us as a community member.
To promote these principles, each spring, the Office of the Dean of Students recognizes 12 outstanding graduating students who “contribute positively to the life of the campus and surrounding community” as members of the Tiger Twelve. This award will recognize students graduating in 2008 who are current, full-time students, who have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5, and have best demonstrated the seven basic principles outlined in LSU’s Commitment to Community.
